About Simon Day & Vine and Wine

Viticulture and Winemaking are in Simon's blood. He grew up at Three Choirs Vineyard in Gloucestershire, getting involved in the vineyard and winery from a very early age. From this hands on beginning, Simon left the family home to study and gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry at Sussex University.

Feeling the inevitable draw to the wine industry, Simon then travelled the world gaining experience from the "New World" of winemaking. Gaining knowledge and experience in the U.S., New Zealand, but particularly with Brown Brothers in Australia where he worked with the winemakers in their research and development winery "The Kindergarten".

On returning to the UK, Simon was briefly involved with winemaking at Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey, then with Lamberhurst Vineyards in Kent, before working with La Mare Vineyards in Jersey where he continues to consult on vineyard, winery and distilling matters to this day.

In 2001, Simon decided to return to the UK to continue his late fathers consultancy and vine supply business. With the ongoing growth and success of the business, Vine & Wine Ltd was created in 2003 to be better placed to serve the growing UK wine industry.

Vine & Wine now has a client base of over 100 growers and winemakers in the UK and abroad - helping to produce award winning and commercially viable vineyards for today and for many years to come.

Simon lives near Ledbury in Herefordshire, with his wife Hannah (also involved in Vine & Wine as Company Secretary) and their daughter Megan. He is regularly asked to judge wines in competition, "an excellent perk of the job!", and he is Chairman of the South West Vineyards Association, and organises the judging panel for their annual competition. When time allows, he enjoys hill walking, especially in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, photography and, of course, enjoying a bottle or two of good wine with friends and family!
